work packages

This work package lays the foundation for EPHYRA’s technological deployment by conducting an in-depth assessment aimed at producing green hydrogen competitively, in accordance with the 2024 KPIs outlined by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership’s Strategic Research & Innovation Agenda (SRIA). It involves clearly defining the boundaries of the integrated industrial green hydrogen system to accurately inform material procurement. Additionally, a cost-effective and value-driven tendering process will be implemented for acquiring the necessary equipment and materials for the large-scale, multi-megawatt electrolyser.

Led by:

Focusing on circular economy principles, this work package evaluates the use of waste heat for carbon free electricity generation using Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC). technology, which will power hydrogen production. It further develops an innovative waste heat recovery concept and explores the utilization of oxygen generated from electrolysis to enhance refinery operations. Complementing these efforts, the package assesses and inte grates solutions for reusing wastewater and optimizing the desalination of sea water, thus supporting a sustainable and efficient hydrogen manufacturing process.

This work package centers on the creation of a digital twin to simulate various electrolyser technologies and system configurations, enabling data driven process optimization. It enhances energy management strategies and ensures seamless integration between the hydrogen plant, the refinery, and external consumers. All innovations will be demonstrated and validated directly at the industrial site, ensuring real world applicability and scalability.

Led by:

The focus here is on detailed engineering that not only meets the project’s innovative targets but also aligns with Motor Oil Hellas’ quality standards. This phase ensures timely and budget conscious commissioning of the hydrogen production unit, followed by a minimum of two years of operation, during which the plant’s procurement and production goals will be met and closely monitored.

Led by:

This work package supports the project’s feasibility and Go/No Go decision process through comprehensive sensitivity analyses and business planning. A robust techno economic model is developed to assess market viability, ensuring profitability throughout the hydrogen integration journey at the MOH site. The framework will also guide replication strategies for similar environmental and business contexts, extending the impact beyond the refinery sector.

Led by:

Maximizing the project’s visibility and societal impact, this package coordinates a strategic communication and knowledge sharing campaign across scientific, technical, and industrial audiences. It manages intellectual property, fosters opportunities for market replication, and enhances public acceptance of EPHYRA’s innovations. Effective knowledge management and continuous collaboration monitoring will be key to unlocking the full exploitation potential of the project.

Led by:

Ensuring seamless execution, this work package provides the overarching management and scientific oversight necessary to achieve EPHYRA’s objectives on time and within budget. I t guarantees compliance with EU legal and financial frameworks, promotes internal cohesion through robust communication channels, and identifies potential risks with proactive mitigation planning. A dynamic data management plan will support ongoing monitor ing and performance measurement across all project stages.
