On December 11, 2024, the EPHYRA project was prominently featured in a seminar at the School of Mechanical Engineering, National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), held as part of the Renewable Energy Sources course. The event was part of a broader engagement by the Motor Oil Group to introduce students to its flagship energy transition initiatives.
Representing the EU Affairs Directorate of Motor Oil, Vasiliki Panaretou, Technical Expert, presented EPHYRA, a leading industrial hydrogen project developing a 30 MW renewable hydrogen production facility, now expandable to 50 MW thanks to additional support from the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF). She outlined how EPHYRA is pioneering the integration of green hydrogen into refinery operations, based on circular economy principles, and contributing to the creation of Greece’s hydrogen economy.
The seminar also included two other key projects that form part of Motor Oil Group’s broader strategy for low-carbon future:
- IRIS CCUS Project, presented by Fanis Christakopoulos, Project Management Expert: This is a co-funded initiative by the Innovation Fund and aims to deploy CO₂ capture and produce low-carbon hydrogen and e-methanol, preventing 8.5 million tons of CO₂ emission.
- TRIERES – Greek Hydrogen Valley: This is another hydrogen initiative coordinated by Motor Oil, aiming to build a small-scale hydrogen valley that connects production with diverse end-users, including in collaboration with EU Valleys in Netherlands and Austria.
This seminar reflected the Group’s commitment to educating and engaging the next generation of engineers – and EPHYRA’s role as a catalyst in Greece and Europe’s clean energy transition.
